技术指标相对活力指数(RVI)的基础是牛市时收盘价往往高于开盘价的事实。熊市的情况与之相反。由此，通过周期结束时价格所在的位置可以计算“变动活力”。要将指数以每日交易区间为基础正常化，要用价格范围除以当日价格变动的最大范围。更多详细的计算用到了简单移动平均。10是指标最佳的周期。为了避免可能的麻烦，使用时应该构造一条额外的信号线：RVI值4个周期的等权重移动平均。当线交叉时出现买卖信号。
RVI = (CLOSE-OPEN)/(HIGH-LOW)

OPEN - 开盘价；
HIGH - 最高价；
LOW - 最低价；
CLOSE - 收盘价。
